The bust sculpture of Medusa is one of the masterpieces of the famous Italian artist Ziffany Lorenzo Bernini in the seventeenth century. It is based on the legend of the Gorgon in ancient Greek mythology. This statue is considered by critics to be One of Bernini’s most controversial works. The master abandoned the classicism, Renaissance style and Mannerism of the traditional formula of showing the banshee's body and the bloody scene, and carved the portrait of the banshee while he was alive. She freezes at the moment when a peculiar "change" occurs in the transition between life and death. It is possible that Bernini reinterpreted the myth about the banshee based on the verses of Giovan Battista Marino: it is not the banshee who turns others into stone with her eyes, but the banshee is accidentally in the mirror.
